Dear Friends,
The kindness and generosity of all at Calvary Lutheran Church is spreading the love of Christ and inspiring faith across Morganton, North Carolina, the nation, and world.  The realities of the pandemic have required the church to pivot, dream, and live into ministry in new ways.  What has not changed is that the gospel of Jesus Christ is life-giving grace for all.
This past year, your generosity has opened the door to new ministry opportunities, most notably, the addition of a second rostered position allowing Pastor Lauren to serve as half-time Pastor of Youth Ministry.  We were also able to not only meet but surpass the two challenges set before us.  Our number of pledges grew as did the percentage of increased giving.  In this culture of generosity that is inspired here at Calvary, our congregation is centering itself through faithful stewardship to bear an abundance of fruit for years to come.  We are truly blessed to be a blessing!
Emmett Brittain shared recently that “the generosity of Calvary Lutheran this past year has enabled our congregation to care for the needs of many, both near and far.”
Kathy Hunt also shared “we are truly blessed here at Calvary.  The ministry is dynamic, we all come from and are in different places, and yet God moves us forward, together in love, no matter how difficult life may get.”
As you consider your giving for the coming year, you are encouraged to prayerfully consider how you are being called to grow in your generosity.  An Intent card has been mailed out and will be received in worship on Sunday, November 14th.  If you won’t be in worship with us that day, please use the enclosed envelope to mail in your intent so that we can include your generosity as we share our progress.
Thank you for all you do to bless this congregation.  And, thank you for considering how you can grow in generosity in the coming year.

P.S. If you prefer, you can simply email your intent for next year to our Financial Secretary, Judie Huffman ( and your commitment will be recorded from that email.

Generosity At Work

In 2011 Mr. Fran Deutschle (former Calvary Member) established an endowment in honor of his wife Phoebe Ann Deutschle.  The Deutschles were active members for the Church in years past and Mr. Deutschle wanted to remember the Church for its importance to them and their two sons during their time in Morganton. The Endowment has been composed of municipal bonds and more recently other securities.  From these investments the accrued interest represents the money that can and has been used by the Church to support needs in the Church and community in recent years.  Mr. Deutschle died on August 1, 2020 and the Church has now received additional securities so that the total value of the Endowment is over 1.8 million dollars.
